A birdwatcher conducting research in DuPage County was killed Friday morning when he was struck by a passing freight train.

It happened in Pratt's Wayne Woods Forest Preserve near suburban Bartlett.

Sixty-seven-year-old Arlo Raim was struck by a Canadian National freight train.

The railroad says Raim was monitoring the impact train traffic has on birds.

The group Raim was conducting the research for was contracted by Canadian National. However, Raim was not authorized to be on train tracks while conducting the research.
