August 25, 2010 --Some Indiana drivers could be in for a very expensive surprise. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the Illinois Tollway missed out on an estimated $7 million in tolls and fines because of a mix-up in how it issued violation notices to Indiana drivers. Now, more than 116,000 Hoosiers are being billed.
The Indiana problem stems from that state's since-discontinued practice of issuing license plates with different designs but duplicate numbers.
The problem goes back to 2008 but wasn't caught until April.
