Workman falls at Loop bridge site

Firefighters rescued a worker who fell 30 feet into the gears of a downtown bridge from a catwalk early Thursday.The man somehow fell through a gap and onto the gears below at the Washington Street Bridge over the Chicago River around 2 a.m.

Firefighters had to pull him from the tight space of the gear room. He suffered minor injuries, including a broken wrist and possible broken shoulder. The worker was part of a crew working on the bridge.
