The Village of Evergreen Park honored fallen Chicago police officer Thomas Wortham Tuesday night.

Wortham began his career in law enforcement in Evergreen Park.

The village retired Wortham's star, number 139, and presented it to his family.

Wortham was killed in May during an attempted robbery outside his parents' home.

On Tuesday night, Chief Michael Saunders said what was noble about Wortham was not how he died, but how he lived.

Wortham joined the Evergreen Park police department in September 2006. He left the following May to come to Chicago.
