The Chicago area drugmaker is aware that the website dealing with the recall, http://www.similac.com/recall, is not responding due to heavy amounts of traffic. Abbot released a complete list, including lot numbers, Thursday afternoon. FIND IT HERE
The formula was voluntarily recalled Wednesday because it may be contaminated with insect parts. As many as 5 million Similac-brand powder formulas sold in the U.S., Puerto Rico, Guam and some Caribbean countries are affected.
The recall does not affect any liquid formulas or other Abbott-brand products.
The insects were uncovered at a Michigan manufacturing plant last week, according to Abbott. That plant was immediately shut down for an investigation.
The Food and Drug Administration has deteremined there is no "immediate health risk" from the contamination, according to Abbott.
Abbott set up a consumer hotline, (800) 986-8850, which as of Thursday was overwhelmed with calls. Additional hotlines are expected.
