Located in Cicero on a corner near the Seguin's Auto Center (sequinauto.org, the car is open seven days a week from morning to evening. Prices range from $6 to $14.
Seguin's Car Wash employs 27 individuals with developmental disabilities, who work different jobs.
"Greeting customers when they come in, we have several individuals who do anything from a basic hand car wash to also more of our detailing services. Not only do we do car wash, but we also have a detailing center which cane extensive as what we call a bumper-to bumper service to also a simple car wash," said Jesse Castor, director of Seguin Works program. He is responsible for overseeing both the car wash and auto center.
" Many of our individuals here have the desire of wanting to work. We can provide the services and that additional support that is required for each individual to make this a successful job employment for them," said Castor.
The business is owned by a not-for-profit organization.
"Many of our customers are not aware that this is part of Seguin services. We like to talk to people, introduce the person to what the service is that we offer here. I think that by allowing that they also have a new experience and become some of our long term customers. and at the same time, we serve a good quality service," said Castor.
Some individuals work full-time while others work part-time. Marian Alcala has been working here since it opened. She has worked every position.
"It feels like it is home," said Alcala. "I do make money here. I do make tip money here-- but we all have to split the tips."
"It's a friendly environment, many of our long term customers keep coming in, they refer us to new customers I think it's just the opportunity to come out and visit us and have the experience of what we do here and what we do best," said Castor.
