Houlihan not running for Chicago mayor

September 24, 2010 (CHICAGO)

In a statement, Houlihan added that he looks forward to working with the next mayor on tax and school funding reform, improving city schools and the safety of city neighborhoods, and reducing crime.

In deciding whom to support for mayor, Houlihan said he will look at the candidates' positions on the issues he cited, as well as looking at their positions on the 2010 assessor's race.

The Democrat is retiring from the assessor's office after heading it for 14 years. Houlihan is a former state representative.
