Men whose partners have breast cancer may need to be checked for signs that their mental health has been affected.

A new study finds these men were 40 percent more likely than other men to be hospitalized for severe depression and anxiety.

The study in the journal Cancer found the overall risk of hospitalization was very small but the mood problems recorded included severe depression.

This is one of the largest studies looking at the effects of a cancer diagnosis on the mental health of close relatives. Over 20,000 men were studied.
