A new service award for Chicago Police personnel will be named in honor of fallen Officer Thomas Wortham.

Wortham's parents stood with police and military leaders for the announcement Monday.

Officer Wortham also served in the military.

He had recently returned from Iraq when he was shot and killed in May near his South Side home.

The award bearing his name will go each year to an officer who has also served in the military and demonstrates outstanding service to the police department and the community.
