Report: Chicago has shortest commute of 51 cities

September 29, 2010 CEOs for Cities, which ranked the commutes of 51 cities, found that Chicago-area residents spent the least amount of time in rush hour traffic, an average of about 31 minutes a day.

The report says "metropolitan areas such as Chicago, Portland and Sacramento have land use patterns and transportation systems that enable their residents to take shorter trips and minimize the burden of peak hour travel."
