Chefs prep for Meals on Wheels gala

October 1, 2010 (CHICAGO) In light of the upcoming event, ABC7's Hungry Hound had a guest in the kitchen Friday who will be cooking at the big event.

There are only a handful of charity events each year helping our city's hungry residents. Meals on wheels is an organization that delivers hot, nutritious meals to Chicago's home-bound and elderly.

Once again this year, a gala evening is in store October 15 when more than 40 chefs will be at Macy's on State Street. Some will be cooking in "pods" right in front of attendees, while others will be manning tasting stations offering up samples of their restaurant's food.

It's one of those rare nights when the city's top chefs come together for a great cause.

Ryan Poli, chef at Perennial in Lincoln Park, will be among the participants. Poli spoke about the event on ABC7 News at 11 a.m. where he shared a recipe for corn soup
