A Chicago-area teacher was given a homecoming parade Saturday in celebration of his return from a year-long tour of duty in Afghanistan.Army medical Officer Robert Ortiz got a hero's treatment from friends, family and well-wishers in his hometown of Lockport Saturday afternoon.
After the parade, there was a party at Lockport's Legion Hall.
Ortiz is a decorated first lieutenant, who spent the past year helping to create a health care system for the Afghan army.
Ortiz returned home earlier this week.
He is a teacher at Joliet's Gompers Junior High.
