October 4, 2010 (CHICAGO) --Amtrak is about to begin a $40 million project to improve Chicago's Union Station. The work will include adding air conditioning to the Great Hall, more restrooms at track level and more seating in Amtrak's boarding lounges.
The building is 85 years old. The project comes at a time when ridership on Amtrak has grown more than 40-percent in the last 12 years.
The work is scheduled to be complete in 2012.
