Officials in one south suburb are taking action against the tree-killing emerald ash borers.

Workers in the Village of Matteson cut down several trees infected by the pests on Monday. The branches were then fed into a chipper shredder.

The ash borer's larvae typically feeds on the bark of ash trees. Infested trees usually die.

The insect is responsible for killing tens of millions of ash trees.
