Study: Family-based treatment best for anorexia

The report in the Archives of General Psychiatry also finds adolescents in family-based programs were more likely to achieve full remission six-to-12 months after treatment.

This type of treatment encourages parents to be involved in weight gain and promotes family harmony.

The findings suggest this approach is superior, but some doctors stress that teen-centered therapy remains an important alternative for families who would prefer an individual approach.
