Gun recovered after police shoot man on South Side

October 10, 2010 (CHICAGO)

Just after midnight, police were patrolling in the vicinity of the 8900-block of South Escanaba.

Officers say they observed a man shooting in the direction of a group of people on the street. The man ran into an alley. When officers approached and identified themselves, police say the man fired at the officers. Police returned fire and wounded the suspect.

No one else was injured.

A handgun was recovered at the scene.

The Independent Police Review Authority is investigating.
