Pre-teens' screen time linked to psychological issues

October 11, 2010 2:46:50 PM PDT
A new study finds that pre-teens who spent more than two hours a day watching television or playing computer games had higher psychological difficulties.

That included problems like relating to peers, emotional issues, hyperactivity or conduct challenges than those who don't.

Researchers reporting in the online issue of Pediatrics found the effect held true regardless of how active children were during the rest of the day. That appears to be the real surprise of this study.

Scientists say parents should limit their children's screen time to ensure optimal well being.
