CPD Supt. Weis leads memorial to honor fallen officers

October 14, 2010 (CHICAGO)

Bagpipers opened the ceremony on the 100th anniversary of the superintendent's honored star case.

The case in police headquarters holds 477 police stars, the badge of each officer who died in the line of duty.

Donna Marquez, the president of Gold Star Families, thanked the police for guaranteeing that their loved ones, and their sacrifices, are remembered.

"What an honor. Thank you so much for never forgetting. Every time I look at my brother's star in that case over there, I think about his 20 years of service, and I know that he did not die in vain," said Marquez.

"These stars reflect the duty, the courage and the commitment of our officers who died in service to the people of Chicago," said Weis.

The superintendent called the fallen officers' contribution immeasurable and everlasting.
