Authorities in north suburban Evanston are investigating a case of vandalism at the Tannenbaum Chabad house, one block from the Northwestern University campus.

A large menorah in front of the house was vandalized. The light bulbs and wiring were pulled out and one of the arms of the menorah was broken off.

The Jewish center opened more than 20 years ago in Evanston.

Police are investigating the incident as a hate crime.

The Anti-Defamation League says the vandalism is "a despicable and cowardly act of anti-Semitism.
