Man charged in Munoz brother hit-and-run

November 3, 2010 (CHICAGO)

The 40-year-old victim, Martin Munoz, is the brother of State Senator Antonio Munoz. He underwent a surgery to put screws and a rod in a broken leg Tuesday and is "doing very well," according to his brother. Munoz also received head lacerations in the crash.

Jason C. Bergmann, 24, of the 4800-block of South Archer Avenue is charged with Felony Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Injuries in connection with the incident near a Southwest Side polling place in the 4000-block of South Archer.

A witness provided police with a description of the vehicle and driver after he fled the scene- including a license plate. That led officials to Bergmann's home, according to a statement from the Chicago Police Department, where the suspect was taken into custody without incident. Police say he admitted he was involved in the hit-and-run.

Bergmann is also charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle without Insurance and Failure to Exercise Due Care for a Pedestrian in the Roadway.

Bergmann is scheduled to appear in court on November 4.
