Landscapers cut down a 70-foot blue spruce Thursday morning that will spend the holidays in Daley Plaza as the City of Chicago's official Christmas tree.

Landscapers cut down a 70-foot blue spruce Thursday morning that will spend the holidays in Daley Plaza as the City of Chicago's official Christmas tree.

The tree will arrive at Daley Plaza Friday night and be lit the day before Thanksgiving.

The family that donated the 75-year-old tree will help Mayor Richard M. Daley flip the switch during the 97th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at Daley Plaza on November 24.

Hours: Music begins at 4:30 p.m., tree will be lit at 5 p.m.

The giant tree was located on soon-to-be-developed property in northwest suburban McHenry, Ill.
