Man charged with DUI in woman's death

November 8, 2010 (CHICAGO) Jeremiah Thompson, of the 6900-block of South Laflin, faces one count each of aggravated DUI accident causing death, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood-alcohol level of at least 0.08, failure to reduce speed, failure to stay within a lane, not yielding to a pedestrian and operating a motor vehicle without insurance.

The accident occurred around 2:15 a.m. Saturday in the 7300-block of South Racine.

Yasha Hicks, of 8615 S. Aberdeen St., 35, was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center at 2:42 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

An autopsy performed Saturday revealed Hicks died of multiple injuries from a motor vehicle striking a pedestrian and her death was ruled an accident, the medical examiner's office said.
