Updating that 'little black dress'

November 10, 2010 10:09:09 AM PST
The holiday party season is just around the corner. You may not be able to buy any new party dresses, but there is plenty you can do to update your look, says Avril Graham, Executive Fashion and Beauty Editor for Harper's Bazaar.

You can take last season's Little Black Dress and add a couple of this season's hottest accessories for stylish, up to the minute looks.

Avril recommends:

  • Look 1: Feminine dress with boyfriend blazer for day look. Simple jewelry but layered. Classic pumps. Simple handbag with clean lines.
  • Look 2: Jersey dress with Fall's hottest accessory --gold. Classic pumps. Glamorous, oversize sunglasses. Computer bag for work.
  • Look 3: Same dress as look 1. Remove jacket for evening. Shoe becomes sexy, strappy platform. Statement necklace brings color to outfit. Switch bag to evening clutch -- no big bags for evening.
  • Look 4: Same dress as look 2. Pump is changed to metallic evening shoe. No sunglasses. Jewelry is large cocktail ring and statement necklace. Work bag is traded for a small evening bag.

You can get some personal advice from Avril Graham Wednesday night from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. when she hosts Harper's Bazaar's Fall Fashion Event at the Swarovski's Boutique at the Shops at Northbridge on Michigan Avenue. Avril Graham will show the top trends for fall and present looks that can easily transform an outfit from day to night with Swarovski's latest collection.
