Postmenopausal women who use hormone replacement therapy might face a significant increased risk of ovarian cancer.

Researchers in England looked at data on 126,000postmenopausal women who did not have a history of cancer. During nine years of follow-up, there were 424 cases of ovarian cancer diagnosed.

The research team concluded that those women who used hormone therapy had a 29 percent increased risk of ovarian cancer compared to women who had never used hormone therapy.

The findings were presented this week at a cancer research conference in Philadelphia.
