A national survey by the American Farm Bureau sent 100 shoppers in 34 states into grocery stores to buy what they need for a 10 person meal. They bought the same items: a turkey, bread stuffing, sweet potatoes, rolls with butter, peas, cranberries, a relish tray of carrots and celery, pumpkin pie mix and pie shells, milk, whipped cream and coffee. On average, they spent $43.47.
The cost of the meal is up a little more than a half dollar from last year, but down $1.41 from 2008.
While the price of a 16 pound turkey is down about a dollar, milk and cream prices are up.
