The blaze started about 2 p.m. Monday afternoon at 70th and Dorchester.
When firefighters arrived they found the 3-year-old boy, Deavion Arnold, behind a bed.
The boy's great-grandmother was discovered in a hallway. She is at the University of Chicago Hospital in serious condition.
Officials say it appears the fire began in the kitchen while someone was cooking.
