The 11-story building has been the home to Ebony and Jet magazines as well as Fashion Fair Cosmetics for nearly 40 years.
But the company says it uses only about half the building.
The sale will help reduce costs.
For now, Johnson Publishing will lease space in the building until the company finds a new location for its headquarters.
