Hospital gives thanks for 1st kidney transplant

November 18, 2010 (OAK LAWN, Ill.)

The Oak Lawn hospital hosted an early Thanksgiving celebration for Diane Tutt and her family Thursday.

Tutt went to a doctor earlier this year when she noticed bruising on her legs. She was shocked to learn it was a symptom of kidney failure and she would need a kidney transplant. The normal wait time for a donor kidney is 5 years, but she received a perfectly matched kidney in just three weeks.

"This is about joy and happiness and being grateful for the many gifts that lie ahead," said Dominica Tallarico, Advocate Christ Medical Center.

Tutt, the mother of two, is doing fine after her surgery.
