They honored Daley for promoting Chicago's sustainability and green building projects.
"The environment comes into play in a city. I grew up in the city all my life -- just a few blocks from the stockyards -- and I firmly believe nature can coexist with the city," said Daley. "What we've tried to do with all of our construction -- what we've tried to do is lead by example."
Daley says he hopes that Chicago will remain committed to green technologies, jobs, and development even after he steps down as mayor.
