Cheers, flags and hugs greeted Staff Sgt. Derrick Lamar Westmoreland when he arrived at Midway Airport after his latest deployment to Afghanistan.
Westmoreland has served multiple tours in both Afghanistan and Iraq. He'll spend the holidays at home with his wife and child in Oak Park.
"Well, I'm glad to be home. It was a long time in Afghanistan but I'm back. I know there'll be a lot more festivities in Oak Park. I appreciate this whole event from the bottom of my heart, from the bottom of my heart," Westmoreland told ABC7 Chicago.
The Warriors Watch Riders escorted Westmoreland home from the airport.
