Feds: Loren-Maltese conviction should stand

November 25, 2010 (CHICAGO)

Betty Loren-Maltese served 6 1/2 years in prison for fleecing taxpayers of more than $12 million in a mob-related insurance scam.

Loren-Maltese asked a judge to vacate her conviction because, she said, a U.S. Supreme Court ruling on the Honest Services Law impacts her case. Prosecutors said Loren-Maltese was guilty, even under a reworked definition of the law.
