Stephen Peterson testified before Oak Brook's board of fire and police commissioners after he was accused of violating department rules when he briefly took some of his father's guns.
The younger Peterson has admitted to taking the guns in 2007 after his father's fourth wife, Stacy Peterson, went missing. Drew Peterson is a person of interest in the Stacy Peteron's disappearance. He is awaiting trial on charges he killed his third wife, Kathleen Savio.
Stephen Peterson said Tuesday that he thought the guns had nothing to do with anything and that his father was typically thorough.
"Because of the nature of my father, every vacation he's gone on throughout his life, anytime he's left town, anything, he's written out a will, he's over precautious on everything," said Stephen Peterson.
The hearing will continue December 9.
