2011 Ford Explorers roll off Chicago assembly

December 1, 2010 (CHICAGO)

The Torrence Avenue plant is building 2011 Ford Explorers. In January, the automaker promised it would hire 1,200 new workers to build the SUV and invest nearly $400 million in the plant.

"Today I'm pleased to say we made good on these promises to invest in U.S. manufacturing and add UAW jobs," said Jim Tetreault, vp Ford North America Manufacturing.

Ford says the plant will begin to ship 2011 Explorers to dealers as early as next week.
