Study: IVF does not increase cancer risk

December 3, 2010 (CHICAGO)

The study in Human Reproduction finds fertility treatments such as IVF may not be tied to an increased risk of cancer despite the hormones used. Some previous studies had suggested that.

However, the study found the risk for breast and cervical cancer was significantly lower than expected. Ovarian cancer was more than twice as high for women who had IVF but authors suggests that could be due to abnormalities in ovarian function that increase the risk for ovarian cancer and infertility.
