The Art Institute of Chicago says it has made a major acquisition of an early 17th century painting.

"The Vision of St. Francis" was painted around 1602 by Ludovico Carracci. The Art Institute says he was one of three artists who helped transform Italian painting at the turn of the 17th century.

The oil on copper painting is now on view at the Art Institute.
