Whooping cough outbreak has Lake County on alert

The Lake County Health Department is issuing an alert over a high number of cases of whooping cough.

So far this year the health department has identified more than 73 cases, with a majority of those in children.

Health officials say the condition is highly contagious and is often confused for a cold or flu.

Some of the best ways to avoid spreading whooping cough is to wash your hands regularly and always cover your cough.

Those who have a cough lasting more than a week should see their doctor.
