Some Chicago mayoral candidates spent the wintry weekend forging ahead with their campaigns as a hearing on Rahm Emanuel's residency approached.

Emanuel was preparing Sunday for his upcoming appearance before election officials who will decide if he is eligible to run.

Opponents say Emanuel is not eligible because he has not lived in the city for a year.

Emanuel is expected to testify Tuesday.

On Sunday, he appeared at a Chicago school to outline his plan for education in the city. In prepared remarks, he said parents should be able to force changes at under-performing schools.

Candidate Miguel del Valle kicked off a voter registration drive Sunday. He said he would concentrate on areas that have had low voter turnouts.

Gery Chico, also a candidate, campaigned in the Logan Square neighborhood and at some indoor markets.
