Study: Flu spreads like wildfire in high schools

December 14, 2010

A new study suggests the flu spreads like wildfire in high schools.

Researchers from Penn State University outfitted students and teachers with wireless sensors to simulate how the flu might spread through a typical American high school.

The results are staggering.

They found more than 750,000 opportunities for the infection to spread daily.

The main reason is because teachers, students and staff are in close proximity which makes it easy to spread the illness.

He study is published in the online edition of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
