December 16, 2010 (CHICAGO) --A Medal of Honor recipient receives a hero's welcome in Chicago.Mayor Daley greeted Staff Sgt. Salvatore Giunta at City Hall. The Iowa native is the first living member of the U.S. Military to receive the Medal of honor Since the Vietnam War. Three years ago, Giunta's squad was split in an ambush in Aghanistan's so-called 'Valley of Death.' Under fire, he pulled one solider back to cover and then fought off two insurgents who had wounded another soldier.
