Keeping off pounds during holidays

Eating healthy, focusing on special treats, and spreading food out over the day could help keep weight gain at bay on Christmas.

First, eat those special holiday dishes and skip the foods that you can have at any time of the year.

Also, don't try to starve yourself ahead of time -- you'll probably just binge later. Instead, you might want to eat a little something, like an apple, to take an edge off your hunger.

Filling up on salads and vegetables while going easy on foods with rich sauces and butter is always a good idea.
