The first call came in shortly after 5 a.m. about a fire at 1809 Laurel Avenue.
The fire department says a house and garage at that address were damaged.
The flames then spread to another house and two other garages.
Two firefighters suffered minor injuries. Another had to be hospitalized, but his injuries were not life threatening.
Investigators have not determined the cause of the fire.
