The one penny fare for train and bus rides begins Friday at 8 p.m., and will last until Saturday at 6 a.m.
Officials say several bus and rail routes also will have later service hours to accommodate for the holiday and offer a safe option for travelers.
Chicago transit officials also say service will operate on a regular weekday schedule on a Sunday or holiday schedule on Saturday, New Year's Day.
