A man walking his Great Dane heard a girl screaming for help Thursday in the 2800-block of North Whipple shortly before 5 p.m.
The man and the dog ran to the scene and cornered the suspect until police came.
Police have arrested 28-year-old Larry Smith of the 3700-block of South Wells. He is charged with attempted criminal sexual assault.
The girl, 14, is OK.
