Firefighters rescue homeless man, adopt his puppy

January 11, 2011 (RALEIGH, N.C.)

Gracie is now a mascot at the Raleigh fire station. The man was carrying her when he got hit by a car and was hospitalized. He seemed more worried about the puppy than himself.

The victim will recover, but it will take some time. He lives on the street and has no family and asked the firefighters to find a home for his pet.

One of the paramedics just lost her own dog and fell in love with little Gracie. Because of her long hours, she'll be bringing the pup to work sometimes, where there's a station full of babysitters who already adore the feisty pooch.
