Study gives reason to get up from your desk

January 12, 2011

A new study in the European Heart Journal finds people who sit for extended periods of time without taking short breaks are at higher risk for heart disease than those who take more timeouts to stand up and walk around.

Scientists say the cardiovascular risk that stems from remaining sedentary for prolonged periods of time manifests itself in the form of larger waists, higher blood pressure, lower levels of good cholesterol and increased body inflammation.

They even found this to be true in people who routinely go to the gym.
