It first opened its gates to new recruits in July 1911 and is the only basic training facility for the U.S. Navy.
According to our news partner, the Daily Herald, more than 3.5 million people have gone through basic training there.
The Navy is planning a number of celebrations to mark the anniversary. The first is Friday when the Great Lakes Navy Band gives a concert.
Other events throughout the year include a base architecture tour and a panel discussion of athletes who served at the station.
