Trooper, Good Samaritan save woman trapped in car

January 18, 2011 (FORT WAYNE, Ind.) The 37-year-old woman apparently lost control of her van and crashed into a utility pole near Fort Wayne. The van burst into flames with the woman trapped inside.

An off-duty state trooper who was passing-by jumped into action-- but he couldn't get her out on his own. Another man driving by rushed to help.

"Without Mr. Michael's help there was no getting her out of that vehicle. He was instrumental in helping me take her out of that vehicle and to me he's the true hero in all of this," Trooper Mike Carroll, Indiana State Police said.

"Anything I could do to help her get out was common sense for me to do," said Marcus Michael.

The woman suffered burns on her legs but she's expected to be OK.
