January 18, 2011 (CHICAGO)

County Board President Toni Preckwinkle named Tariq Malhance to the post Tuesday. He is a former comptroller for the city of chicago, who has also worked in private business.

"We sought out Tariq because he is a true professional and has a set of skills we need to ensure the county's financial security," said Preckwinkle.

"President Preckwinkle has clearly established that her administration will do business differently than it was in the past. As a result our budget process will be open and transparent... goals which we will be accountable for," said Malhance.

Malhance says his goals include cutting expenses and rolling back the county sales tax.
