Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez presented the Illinois Arson Awards during a ceremony at the Criminal Courts Building.
Thirteen of the recipients were civilians.
The others were law enforcement officials. Among them were those who helped convict Raymond Lee and Jonathan Mitchell for a January 2000 fire in Chicago that killed two elderly men.
Alvarez thanked all the honorees for their "courage and conviction."
