Steve Burton, 20, of the 1800-block of California Avenue, faces one count of criminal sexual assault and one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. He appeared in court on January 17.
Cook County sheriff's police said the investigation began on January 15 after Burton and his alleged victim were discovered in a parked vehicle in Lion Woods. An officer saw the man and girl getting dressed, police said. The two were then taken to the Des Plaines Police Department for questioning.
Police said the victim told officers she met Burton on MySpace.com when she was 12 and they had been texting, chatting on Facebook and talking on the phone for about six months. She said Burton was aware of her age and that on January 15 they engaged in sexual acts, police said.
Burton allegedly admitted to knowing the girl was underage and engaging in sex acts with the victim on at least four other occasions.
He will appear in court next on February 3.
The Department of Children and Family Services is investigating.
